I would recommend to have the water completely changed. New water should be ideally submitted for quality testing. Most pet stores will do this for free or a nominal fee. High ammonia levels, PH imbalances may be responsible for that as well. Oxygen concentration and quality of the filters should be determined as well. This is a follow up to my question about putting flea powder on the floor of a doghouse and then putting pine needles on top of it for three week old puppies. Would it be safe to put some powder on a cloth and then just wipe the fleas with it. Then wipe down the puppy with a damp cloth? Where I live it's a two hour drive to anywhere. So my options are very limited. They're not even my dogs. I'm doing it because the owner doesn't care. One strange thing is I can't find a flea on the mother.

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question. How lovely of you to look after these puppies. You can use Dawn dish soap and water water, and then bathe them in it to remove the fleas. I would not put the flea powder on a cloth and put it on them. You can also use Frontline spray, it's safe for puppies as young as two days of age, and you may be able to order that online for delivery. As for the mother, fleas live in the environment, not on the dog. They jump on to feed and then jump off. That may be why you cannot find fleas on her. I'd treat her with a spot on treatment such as Revolution or Advantage. I hope this helps.

Hi, I am giving teef for life protektin 42+K to my cat. I used it for its tartar and gingivitis. I used it for 3 days. I felt my cat was a little lethargic after using it. When I asked a question here in Boop by Petco, one of your vets told me they have never heard about the product. That really worries me...is it a genuine and safe product?..or some scam....should I stop giving it?

Hello, thank you again for using Boop by Petco. I answered your question yesterday. I researched the product before I answered you and I did not see any harmful ingredients. However, that does not mean no animal will never show any adverse effects. If it does not agree with your cat stop using it. No one can guarantee anything. I have been a veterinarian in the US for close to 20 years and as a certified veterinary technician for 5 years prior to that. I have never heard of this product but that does not mean there is anything wrong with it. There are millions of products in the world marketed towards animals with new ones coming out each day. There is no way to keep up with all of them. Again, I suggest you contact the manufacturer directly for any concerns.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. Panacur granules are not labeled for use in cats in the United States. It would be impossible to get a small enough dose measured out for a 1.5 pound kitten, therefore, it is not recommended. You can, however, use the Panacur liquid but that needs to be given once a day for 3-5 days in a row and is rather expensive. It can be purchased over the counter. Follow the dosing recommendations on the bottle. ( https://www.bestvetcare.com/panacur-oral-suspension-for-cats-and-dogs-pack-316.aspx ) It is better, and recommended, to give liquid PYRANTEL to kittens. You can also buy this over the counter. Follow dosing and frequency recommendations on the packaging but in general, the dose is 1.0mls per 10 pounds of body weight. You need to get a 1cc syringe and give 0.15mls right now as she is 1.5 pounds. You will need to increase the dosage each time as her weight will be increasing. There have been some studies evaluating its toxic effects, mainly when used as a gel substrate in eye medications in animals and this is what I was able to find regarding this: Use: Carbomer-based gels significantly extend contact of solutes or suspended solids with the corneal surface Overdosage: Doses up to 1 g/kg PO in dogs x 6 mo resulted in no observable clinical effects and no pathological lesion No toxic effects expected; should signs develop, treatment should be symptomatic Systemic toxicosis not expected due to poor bioavailability So therefore, there are no concerns here when this compound is ingested in animals (dogs or cats). This is typically the case when dealing with over the counter supplements or dental products in general. If toxicity concerns were there, a product would likely require a prescirption and would not be available as an over the counter. Is it safe to give refrigerated amoxicillin to a 8 week old kitten (who was a stray) who has an upper respiratory infection? The kitten already has completed the 10 days of amoxicillin that the vet prescribed. However, he is still sneezing (no other symptoms lingering). Is it safe to give him the same recommended dose for another 3-4 days? (Pic is day 1 vs day 7)

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. The answer is, it depends. We need more information. When was the refrigerated amoxicillin reconstituted? If it was longer than 14 days ago then it is no longer good. Is this formulation the same mg/ml as the one you got from the veterinarian? It is best for you to repost with that information so we can help you better. Honestly, though, if he is only sneezing, has no other symptoms and is eating/drinking well I would not bother with the antibiotics. Usually a URI is due to a mixed infection of bacteria and viruses - you cannot treat the viral portion with antibiotics and typically after 10 days the bacterial portion is under control. You are better off letting his own immune system kick in. I recommend you use something like Imuquin to help boost his immunity instead of using antibiotics. Hello. My door was open with a screen net and a raccoon came right up to the door making contact with my cat. Face to face. Is there a way for her to catch anything like that like rabies? Or does a cat have to get bitten for that? I immediately ran up and closed the door. The raccoon was coming to eat the bird seeds. Is there anything to worry about here?

So there is very low risk of rabies transmission based on what you have described as making ocntact through a screen net. It isn't impossible because rabies is found in the saliva, just very unlikely in this scenario. Just keep an eye on your pet Kate for the next 7 days for any abnormal behavior (i.e. excessive vocalization, irrational behaivor, aggressive behavior, and if she is not up to date on her rabies vaccination, I would highly recommend getting her vaccinated asap.
