Look for redness, swelling, decreased appetite or excess salivation. The "crust" may be food crumbs, shed skin or substrate. A physical exam with your veterinarian or an experienced herp vet would be needed to definitively diagnose rot. In the meantime, make sure the enclosure is clean as poor husbandry can predispose a beardie to infection. High humidity can also promote bacterial or fungal overgrowth.

My cat has signs of gingivitis. Will it hurt her if I start to brush her teeth? She had a teeth cleaning with the vet last year, but her gums are already a little red and slightly inflamed again. I hate the idea of putting her under anaesthesia unnecessarily, so can I try to do something at home? I’ve tried gels and plaque off, neither seem to keep it at bay. Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Cassie. I think it's a great idea for you to start brushing her teeth, and that can help with the gingivitis. Be sure to use a pet toothpaste, as human ones are toxic for cats. You can get a pet toothbrush and paste at a pet store. I'd brush her teeth three times a week. I hope this helps!

I found my 6 yr old cat dead. He was laying in a room (in a spot he's never been before), on his side. Mouth and eyes open, his tongue was out a bit. He had a bit of blood around his mouth, not much and on the side of his face which was on the floor, had clear fluid smeared down his face. The past few weeks he's had excessive dandruff and clumping of fur, which I could pull the clumps out and he'd hardly react really. Any ideas as to why my cat died? Heart problem? Kick?

Hello and I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your kitty. It is so heart breaking to lose them. Without an autopsy, one can't be certain, but most often in a cat without any other clinical signs, it's usually a bad heart that will cause sudden death. One of the most most common heart diseases in cats is called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. It often has no symptoms. It is often not detectable on a physical exam. Sometimes there will be fluid in the lungs from congestion in the lungs that can leak out after passing. I hope this helps to provide some closure and with time, I hope your heart heals. My cat has been having issues with his left eye for months- he keeps it shut and it was concluded by his vet to not be infected and to have nothing inside. she suggested removing a tooth that may have effected his eye and for a while he eye looked better but still a little closed. Recently again now the corner of the eye is irritated and swollen and he is keeping it shut. He also rubs the corner of his mouth on that side on things and gets cuts from irritating it. No vet knows what is wrong :(

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I know that you are struggling to find out what is going on with Bean but there is not going to be much I can tell you without examining him myself. I suggest you take him to a veterinary ophthalmologist if your regular vet is unable to find the cause. Keeping the eye close indicates pain so you need to get this figured out as you cannot leave him in pain. There are MANY different things that can be going on here: scratched cornea, glaucoma, herpes keratitis, uveitis, abscess associated with a tooth, neoplasia (cancer), and those are just a few of the possibilities. He needs to have testing and having an eye specialist check him is going to be your best bet. I find these two near you. Hi my dog Deogie has been biting and licking his paws and trying to literally pull off his toe nails like they itch or something and his paws are red and his nail bed is a light brown color. Can he have athletes foot? And can I use hydrocortisone cream or athletes foot spray? Please help it looks like it can be really annoying for my baby!!

If he is biting and licking his paws a lot, that tells me he is quite itchy, and that is usually a sign of allergies. It's not a sign of a fungal infection, and it's not called athlete's foot in dogs, it's called ringworm. This is something that needs to be diagnosed by a vet in order for him to be treated correctly, and I would take him into a vet today or tomorrow. Until he sees a vet, put a cone on him to keep him from biting at his paws. You can buy one at a pet store if you don't have one at home already. I hope this helps!

Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco. I would certainly make sure that your pet does not have active fleas before making any visits. You mentioned he "WAS" on a flea medication for 2 months, so I am not sure if he is current on this medication or not. If he isn't, then certainly get him current on it. Then I would check him for fleas with a "flea comb" that you can purchase from your local pet store. If fleas or any flea dirt (tiny black pepper like specs) are on his haircoat, then it is safe to say that his flea problem is not resolved, and it is best for him to stay home this time around until the flea problem has been completely cleared up.
