I have a new dog and her breed was pomshitz which is a mixture of pomeranian and shitzu. She's still 2months old and she doesn't eat dog food and she also doesn't drink water that much but we forced her to drink milk since we were worried that she wont eat anything. I just wanna know if.. is it right to feed our dog with milk? or.. is there anything that we could do to let her eat dog food?

Congrats on your new puppy, Honey is very cute! No, it is not right to feed her milk, especially cow's milk. Dairy productions should never be fed to dogs due to GI upset, and milk alone is not a balanced diet for a puppy. It will not be providing her with the nutrients she needs to grow properly. Puppies need higher amounts of protein, calories, and calcium than adult dogs, and a puppy formulated food will give that to her. It may be that she isn't used to puppy food yet, and I can give you a method to try to get her used to puppy food. To help her get used to puppy food, I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with puppy formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry puppy food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until she is eating the dry puppy food only.

My 35 lb mixed breed dog ate a large chocolate chip cookie. Should I worry?

A dog of Bennett's weight would need to eat more than 5 ounces of milk chocolate before to result in a serious risk of toxicity. A large chocolate chip cookie may result in some minor gastrointestinal upset. You may see vomiting, diarrhea or a decrease in appetite. This can usually be managed at home with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Monitor for tremors, hyperactivity, increased heart rate, ataxia (wobbly gait). Or seizures. These are all symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian immediately.

My male Chihuahua 3 yrs old his penis won't come out and he's been trying for 3 day's to breed with a female that's been in heat and she wants him to,. What's wrong with him?

I am sorry to hear about Brusier. If you are unable to expose his penis from his prepuce at home I would be concerned that he could have a stricture (a narrowing) of the opening of the prepuce that the penis has to slide through, or another anatomical abnormality if you have never seen his penis out previously (we can have congenital abnormalities that may affect this). I would recommend an examination by your vet if this is an issue to be sure there isn't any inflammation/infection around the penis causing it to be painful or swollen and inhibiting its movement. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause of the problem.

Sir i have a female pug she is 6 years 3 months old and she is on heat now. Should i breed her for the first time or should i leave as she is too old to breed Note- i try to breed her before but it was unsuccesfull 3-4 times then i thought she cant able to give birth.

6 years old isn’t too old to breed, but it is getting to the point where it may be more difficult for her. If she has not been able to conceive in the past then I would be concerned that she may not be able to. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

True that chicken cartilage supports joint health? Should I add glucosamine to my large breed dog food? How much glucosamine is needed for dog?

Yes, chicken cartilage can be beneficial, but it must be raw. This can turn off most owners who are hesitant to feed raw foods. Glucosamine may promote joint health and may slow down degenerative joint conditions. It is usually given by weight. Discuss a proper loading dose and maintenance dose with your vet. Glucosamine hydrochloride is preferred over glucosamine sulfate as it is more easily absorbed by dogs. Vitamin C given in junction can also increase absorption. Choose a quality supplement such as Cosequin or Dasuquin.

Age: 10, Breed: Maltese(Neuterd). Hello. I have a question about Kidney he's got blood test and the Creatine is 2; Bun: 40 And, SDMA results: 34 Also, from ultrasound test, PKD is found. So, the vet decided my dog is under stage 4 of Kidney disease from SDMA result. and I heard that his life span is 6 month left. I wonder if it is correct to say stage 4 from sdma result (34) even creatine and bun is not that high.

According to the kidney council (IRIS) he is a stage 2. You need more information however. You need a urinalysis to tell you the concentration of the urine and also a protein level. You also need a blood pressure check. These are sub-stages of the renal disease. I would discuss these tests with your vet, get Dalsong on a renal diet and any medications for the protein or blood pressure. You should also check the Phosphorus level to see if he needs medications to lower that. I would then recheck everything in 2-3 months to see how things are changing. Good luck and kisses to Dalsong!

My 2 yr old Doberman has been bleeding from his penis for 4 days. Day 1 had a lot of bleeding, Day 2 mild Day 3 a lot Day 4 small amounts. He has been to see the vet on day 1,2&3. Ruled out urinary problems and diagnosed with over exerting himself trying to breed with our female (even though he is fixed), as the blood is coming from his prepuce and the soft tissue is swollen there. We were told to wait it out & that it would heal in a few days. Does this sound right? We’re worried for him.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. I am concerned that he continuing to bleed. A clot should have formed by now unless the trauma is too much or he has a bleeding disorder. With him being a doberman, I would strongly suggest checking him for any bleeding disorder such as von willebrand disease. Your vet can test for this with a specific test. I would also check general blood work and potentially sedate him and check the area out more. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. The sooner he is seen the better.

Hi! I recently got a puppy from a friend. He is 9 weeks, I am going Saturday to get his shots at Petco for his 8 weeks. I am not an expert but I think they are giving him all the shots he needs. Is there anything else I need to get him at this age? Or does he need more shots after his 8 week one? Also I need to get papers to show his breed.. where do I do that?

Yes they will give all the vaccinations he needs at PetCo. He will need two more sets of booster shots to be fully protected. They will give you a schedule for his booster vaccinations and discuss flea, tick and heartworm products if they are recommended in your area. You can also get a microchip at PetCo. As far as the papers to show his breed ask your friend if they have some from the breeder. You don’t need any papers though to get him examined and vaccinated. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you get answers to your veterinary questions.

hi, can i breed my dog already? since she's already done with her first heat? or is that not possible? does she need to be in her second heat? shes 8 months now.

8 months is very young to breed. She is not fully grown yet and breeding her now would stunt her growth. I would wait at least until her second heat, better her third heat. That way her body is fully grown and also mentally she will be grown up and then take good care of her puppies.
